Daniel Zene Crowe for Oregon Court of Appeals Position 4

On Thursday, the 14th of March, I withdrew my candidacy for Position 4 on the Oregon Court of Appeals. Please see my full statement, here.

Since 1998, I have dedicated my life to providing impartial, nonpartisan, apolitical legal service to our people; and I offer to continue that service to you on the Oregon Court of Appeals.

Growing up in Tom McCall’s Oregon, I saw a tradition uniquely our own. It was characterized by the three strands of Oregon’s DNA: Moderation-in-Manner, Consensus-in-Decision, Live-and-Let-Live-in-Practice. In a word: Love.

I am excited at the opportunity to have a conversation about the Rule of Law over the next months, and my argument is going to touch on some very fundamental concerns I have about how to bring every Oregonian back together.

I can’t control what decision you make—and I’d never want to. But what I can control is whether I offer you a different, more holistic way of thinking about what Oregon is. Because, as U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy famously observed, “Some men see things as they are, and ask why? I see things as they could be, and ask why not?”

Governor McCall’s wisdom is still true today. “This is our community, and it is our responsibility to make it better.”
